Jumpstarting Ford to Stop Global Warming
Letter signed by Walnut Creek Ford Dealership
Wednesday, February 16, 2005
Mr. William Clay Ford, Jr.
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Ford Motor Company
The American Road
Dearborn, MI 48120
Dear Mr. Ford:
As a longtime Ford dealer, I am writing to ask Ford management to take immediate steps to dramatically increase the fuel economy of our vehicles.
As the social and monetary cost of petroleum rises, customers' demand for more efficient vehicles is also rising. This means that Ford's long-term profitability is best served by making vehicles that do not rely on gasoline. I fear that if Ford does not start moving faster toward an oil-independent business model, Ford dealers such as myself will begin to lose sales to other brands.
On Ford's 101st anniversary, please think carefully about the future of Ford and the American auto industry. Ford has the capability to lead the industry in clean vehicle technologies. Doing so will safeguard jobs, as well as businesses like mine.
Thank you for your attention on this important matter. I look forward to your response. I can be reached at 925-932-2900.
